Gold and silver are spiking on Thursday’s COMEX open, with silver finally taking out the cartel cap at $35, spiking through the level to $35.20.
Gold cleared the $1780 cartel cap early in Thursday’s Asian session, and consolidated between $1785 and $1790 throughout the duration of the Asian and London sessions, prior to spiking towards $1800 on the COMEX open and setting a new 2012 high of $1796.
We have repeatedly discussed the importance of silver closing above $35 on consecutive sessions, and gold above $1800, and the fact that the cartel has been capping both metals over the past 2 weeks on every approach of $1780 and $35.
We are not out of the woods just as as tomorrow is the September BLS non-farms payroll report, which has historically been one of the cartel’s favorite times to initiate a substantial raid in the metals. Combine the timing of the BLS release with gold and silver’s potential break-out through clear resistance levels, and we will be shocked if the cartel does not attempt to initiate a major take down over the next 24 hours.
*Update: Well, that didn’t take long as Blythe and her monkeys immediately sprang into action, smashing silver back under $35 and gold back towards $1780.

“It’s our currency and your problem,” U.S. Treasury Secretary John Connally famously said of the dollar in 1971.
More than 40 years later, China is doing something about it.
Fed up with what it sees as Washington’s malign neglect of the dollar, China is busily promoting the cross-border use of its own currency, the yuan, also known as the renminbi, in trade and investment.
The aim is both narrowly commercial – to reduce transaction costs for Chinese exporters and importers – and sweepingly strategic.
Displacing the dollar, Beijing says, will reduce volatility in oil and commodity prices and belatedly erode the ‘exorbitant privilege’ the United States enjoys as the issuer of the reserve currency at the heart of a post-war international financial architecture it now sees as hopelessly outmoded.

About 250 shipyard workers stormed the Greek Defense Ministry in Athens on Thursday, demanding to be paid their wages and calling for an audience with the Greek Defense Minister. The shipyard workers were from the Hellenic Skarmangas shipyard. Furious over not having been paid for six months, they chanted “We want solutions, not layoffs!”

So, just how is this different to war? And how does NATO, and specifically Article 5 feel about this? What about Russia and China?
More from the WSJ:
Turkey’s parliament approved a measure proposed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, giving the government broad powers to send soldiers into “foreign countries” after Turkish armed forces and Syria traded fire on Wednesday and Thursday.
The measure is valid for one year and allows Mr. Erdogan to deploy troops into Syria without consulting with the national assembly in Ankara. The measure was opposed by the main opposition Republican People’s Party, which dubbed it a “war bill.”
Opponents argue that the rules of engagement adopted after Syria downed a Turkish reconnaissance jet in June provide a broad enough mandate to thwart threats from President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, which has been battling an uprising that started in March 2011 and is supported by Turkey.
“The negative impacts of the ongoing crisis in Syria on our national security is visible in an increasing fashion,” Mr. Erdogan said in the bill he submitted to parliament. “The aggressive actions targeting our national lands are at the threshold of armed attacks…. For that reason, it has become necessary to take precaution to act in a timely and quick manner against additional risks and threats facing our country.”

Since the U.S. and E.U. first enacted sanctions against Iran, in 2010, the value of the Iranian rial (IRR) has plummeted, imposing untold misery on the Iranian people. When a currency collapses, you can be certain that other economic metrics are moving in a negative direction, too. Indeed, using new data from Iran’s foreign-exchange black market, I estimate that Iran’s monthly inflation rate has reached 69.6%. With a monthly inflation rate this high (over 50%), Iran is undoubtedly experiencing hyperinflation.
When President Obama signed the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act, in July 2010, the official Iranian rial-U.S. dollar exchange rate was very close to the black-market rate. But, as the accompanying chart shows, the official and black-market rates have increasingly diverged since July 2010. This decline began to accelerate last month, when Iranians witnessed a dramatic 9.65% drop in the value of the rial, over the course of a single weekend (8-10 September 2012). The free-fall has continued since then. On 2 October 2012, the black-market exchange rate reached 35,000 IRR/USD – a rate which reflects a 65% decline in the rial, relative to the U.S. dollar.

Turkish artillery has fired on positions inside Syria after shells from Syria killed five people in a southern Turkish border town.
A woman and her three children were among those killed earlier when the shells, apparently fired by Syrian government forces, hit Akcakale.
Turkey’s response marks the first time it has fired into Syria during the 18-month-long uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Nato ambassadors discussed the crisis.
The military alliance issued a statement saying it “continues to stand by (Nato member) Turkey and demands the immediate cessation of such aggressive acts against an ally, and urges the Syrian regime to put an end to flagrant violations of international law”.
‘Abominable attack’
Turkey’s territory has been hit by fire from Syria on several occasions since the uprising against President Assad began, but Wednesday’s incident was the most serious.
As we can see from the action in Sept 2011, right before gold went vertical, the commercial net short positions were at a peak. But, when the price moved up it caused a HUGE SHORT SQUEEZE, forcing the commercials to cover.
Here we can see that the BULLS won the battle. Presently, the gold price could go either way as we are seeing extreme high levels in the commercial net short positions. However, if we do see large buying coming in from the Hedge Funds and etc, it could cause a huge short squeeze, similar to what took place back in Sept 2011.
Well, it looks as if gold production from the Top 5 gold companies declined 5% in the first half of 2012 compared to the same period last year:
Barrick had less gold production due to less ore processed and GoldCorp was dealing with the drought in Mexico which cut back their production. Regardless, it will be difficult for these top 5 miners to make up the shortfall in the second half of 2012… especially with 39% of the gold production offline in South Africa.

(CDC)– As of October 2, 2012, 48 states have reported West Nile virus infections in people, birds, or mosquitoes. A total of 3,969 cases of West Nile virus disease in people, including 163 deaths, have been reported to CDC. Of these, 2,010 (51%) were classified as neuroinvasive disease (such as meningitis or encephalitis) and 1,959 (49%) were classified as non-neuroinvasive disease.
The 3,969 cases reported thus far in 2012 is the highest number of West Nile virus disease cases reported to CDC through the first week in October since 2003. Almost 70 percent of the cases have been reported from eight states (Texas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Dakota, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Illinois) and a third of all cases have been reported from Texas.
~~~~~NNNNN~~~~~
As I stated back on August 23rd, “What I want to know is why the national coverage regarding WNV? Less than a thousand cases out of some 330 Million American citizens, and only 26 deaths across the entire nation, yet it is hitting the national wire? Yes, this is truly tragic for the infected people and their families, but what makes it national news? What is the agenda, because all “news” these days is agenda driven. I think there may be a hint as to the agenda, in the fact of when these stories became “escalated” – when the question of pesticide spraying came into play. The government making a decission to spray chemicals which are ‘for the common good’ even though they pose individual risks. It is a subtle promotion of collectivist attitudes: a ‘this is the reason we need government’ type of logic.”
A week earlier, on August 15th, I warned, “Remember where I wrote that we are subject to 5th-Gen warfare? Well, 5th-Gen tactics include “destabilization efforts” including inciting social unrest in the target country/region through racial, political, and financial “triggers”, as well as creating a generally high-risk/high-volatility environment through propagation of disease, crime, corruption, and misinformation. Two key tenets of 5th-Gen warfare are: exacerbate and exploit every weakness of your enemy, and maintain a low-intensity war which “does not give substantive cause for escalation”. The third of the key rules of 5th-gen is, “never give your enemy a clear target for retaliation – act as one consolidated force, but appear as many smaller factions/entites, and instigate divisive and paralysing debate in the target country about ‘who the real enemy is’.”
Well, it seems that the initial scare 6 weeks ago was pulled off without a hitch, so they are ratcheting it up as the election season progresses (pardon the pun) – now they are reporting 3,969 cases, as opposed to 693 back on August 23rd. This represents a ~570% increase in “reported cases” in just over a month – tomorrow they will be calling it an “epidemic” and saturating the news cycle with dire warnings yet again. I expect there will be ‘Declarations of Emergency’ coming out across the US in the next week or two, with innediate spraying of ‘insecticide’ as the preferred method of dealing with this so-called ’emergency’ – After all, we know that TPTB are all in on the philosophy of “never let a good crisis go to waste”.
~Those who abuse Liberty, do so at their own peril!
Brandon Smith
Many of us in the liberty movement find ourselves searching for a distinct root cause of the trials and tribulations of American culture — the Holy Grail catalyst that, if unraveled, would save this country and heal the septic wounds covering the landscape of our hobbled society. The obvious answer would be to remove the global elites who are poisoning the well from the picture entirely. Yes, this has to be done eventually. However, we must also identify how those elites have been able to so thoroughly con the masses of this nation for so long.
What inherent weakness has made us susceptible to manipulation? For this question, there are NO easy answers. But, if I had to choose a single frailty of our collective psyche as paramount to our downfall, I would say that Americans most of all are confounded by their own patriotism. We often embrace the ideal without knowing what it really means.
There are in fact two kinds of patriotism: the concrete, and the imagined. Many Americans fall haphazardly into the fantasy of being patriotic. They define patriotism upon the exploits of the mainstream and of the government in control at the time. They become cheerleaders for the establishment instead of stalwart champions of their country’s founding principles. In fact, true patriotism is NOT about blindly defending one’s nation or leadership regardless of its trespasses; true patriotism is about defending the philosophy that made one’s nation possible and prosperous in the first place — even if that means standing against the power structure in place today.
A simple system with old school components with no electronics. I wanted to use a charging system that has been proven over the years and use it for a prepping solution. The combination of generator and external voltage regulator ( with points) should withstand EMP – Coupling it together with a bike or a small engine could provide critical electricity in a Grid Down scenario.
