Al Sharpton, NAN Launch ‘Occupy The Corners’ Urban Violence Reduction Campaign

Starting this Friday, Aug. 17, the Rev. Al Sharpton and his National Action Network (NAN) will commence execution of its “Occupy the Corners” initiative in New York City. “Occupy the Corners” is community mobilization effort intended to help curb the rising tide of gun violence in urban metropolitan areas.

The plan is to station a group of concerned citizens at intersections notorious for crime and to have them literally both take a stand against these activities and to shine a light on them.

The objectives of the program are: a) to stand as symbols of positivity, b) to engage with people from the community to figure out what their needs are, c) to build trust between NAN volunteers and the various unsettled areas, and d) to begin to establish order on the streets.

A NAN press release gives more detail on the specific “Occupy The Corners” tactics:

Each weekend, NAN and community activists, politicians, church leaders, and the like, will stand on corners in “hotspot” areas throughout the city, watching for any signs of violence, talking to residents, and take back the streets. OTC is not a patrol, says Sharpton, but an opportunity to show strong real-life neighborly support in our communities most plagued by gun violence.

CHINA: Remember When…

Remember back in March when I stated that China was secretly dumping US Treasuries?  Well some of that truth about their aggressive divestiture has started to leak out…

(Zerohedge)  When one thinks US Treasurys, and demand thereof, two entities pop into mind: the Federal Reserve, which over the past 3 years has been the biggest institutional buyer of US paper, and China, which is the largest foreign holder of US TSYs. Yet over the past year something curious happened: when it comes to setting marginal demand for US Treasurys, it was neither the Fed, whose sterilized Operation Twist has kept its holdings of US Tsys relatively flat, nor China, which has actually been a major seller of US paper, that has been the dominant source of marginal demand for Uncle Sam’s never to be repaid obligations. Japan. (see my comments on Japan’s economy here) Continue reading

The NWS – the New World System

Earlier this morning, I saw this post at ZH ( http://www.zerohedge.com/news/presenting-shocking-source-us-treasury-demand-past-year) and it got me thinking. In the post, it’s mentioned that Japan has dramatically increased its purchases of treasuries while China has actually been a net seller. The question is asked: “What is China doing with their dollar reserves” if they’re no longer buying treasuries? This is where ole Turd’s brain started churning.

Two months ago, I wrote this: http://www.tfmetalsreport.com/blog/3924/gonefor-good. At the time I wrote it, I expected it to be quite the bombshell within our little “goldbug” community. Instead, it was met with yawns and dispassion. Perhaps that is what I should have expected. I mean, seriously, BREAKING NEWS from a guy who goes by the name of “Turd”? Well, regardless, I stand by the facts of this story and the opinions contained therein. Gold continues to exit “the system” at a consistent pace, never to return.

I’m re-posting it today not because I’m out of material and I need to dredge up the old stuff to fill space. I’m re-posting it because this truly is a very important development and one that, because it’s not on the national/internet radar, is being widely discounted and overlooked.

You see, no one on Wall Street or in the financial media has any interest in pursuing this story. The MSM and TPTB are completely invested in maintaining the status quo and they will do so right up to the point where the game is changed for them. China will continue to accumulate gold and silver. They will continue to refine and re-cast this metal into new, standard and official sizes. They will continue to sign and implement bilateral currency and trade agreements that bypass the U.S. dollar. And they will continue to open portals for the international use of the renminbi.

…Every Day

Be prepared to see and hear at least one incident like these, every day from now on – this is the kind of low-intensity war that they will use to dissolve what remains of the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments.  If they can stir sufficient unrest, they may claim to have cause to suspend the elections.  Some of these events will be true false-flag attacks, but many will just be the end result of the profoundly increased pressures average citizens are being forced to live under, such as I believe the College Station, TX shooting yesterday was.  While there was no direct conspiracy which created yesterday’s shooting in TX, there certainly IS an indirect conspiracy – they are systematically focusing our fears and shortcomings against us as a society.  Look at the forest, not the individual trees, and what I suggest becomes quite clear.

(NBC News)   A security guard has been shot at the headquarters of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization based in downtown D.C.  A suspect is in FBI custody.  The shooting occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday in the lobby of 801 G Street NW. The guard was struck in the arm. His condition is currently unknown.  NBC4’s Derrick Ward reports that the shooter entered the building displaying a gun, and was confronted by security guards before he fired. It’s unknown whether any guards fired back, he said.~~~NNN~~~

(WCNC News)  GASTONIA, N.C. — A mother and son were shot after stepping outside of their Gastonia home to smoke Tuesday night.

Gastonia police said the two victims were outside of their house off of Laurel Woods Drive around 11 p.m.  when two people walked by and shot them.  Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
Authorities are still looking for the suspects and have not yet found a motive for the shooting. Police have not released the identity of the man and woman shot.  If anyone has information about this crime they’re asked to call Gastonia police at 704-866-6890.~~~NNN~~~

Dishonorable Disclosures

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-Xfti7qtT0

From YouTube:

Intelligence and Special Operations forces are furious and frustrated at how President Obama and those in positions of authority have exploited their service for political advantage. Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk.

The unwarranted and dangerous public disclosure of Special Forces Operations is so serious — that for the first time ever — former operators have agreed to risk their reputations and go ‘on the record’ in a special documentary titled “Dishonorable Disclosures.” Its goal is to educate America about serious breaches of security and prevent them from ever happening again.

Use of military ranks, titles & photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement of the Dept of the Army or the Department of Defense. All individuals are no longer in active service with any federal agency or military service.

Dallas Under Attack By Mosquitoes: 10 Deaths Reported

(Dallas News) Mayor Mike Rawlings has declared a state of emergency in Dallas over the spread of West Nile virus. He also requested that Dallas County and the state provide aerial pesticide spraying in the city to control mosquitoes that spread the virus.

The virus has claimed 10 lives in Dallas County. Five of those were Dallas residents. Many of those who died were in frail health and had underlying medical conditions.

“I think this is the right thing to do. I cannot have any more deaths on my conscience because we didn’t take action,” Rawlings said.

The city has seen 111 reported infections that caused 65 hospitalizations. The majority of reported cases have been the more serious neuro-invasive strain of the virus.

Rawlings said that 25 percent of all West Nile virus cases reported in the country have been in Dallas County. Continue reading

Endgame

George Soros has predicted the end of the Euro by September 3, 2012:

“We are at an inflection point. After the expiration of the three months’ window, the markets will continue to demand more but the authorities will not be able to meet their demands,” he warned in a speech at the Festival of Economics in Trento, Italy. (Read the text of his speech.)

Whatever your personal opinion of George Soros, his financial information (and manipulation) should always be considered to be plausible.

Municipal Bond Default Frequency Is Far Greater Than Reported

The Untold Story of Municipal Bond Defaults

Jason Appleson, Eric Parsons, and Andrew Haughwout

In our recent post on the state and local sector, we argued that structural problems in state and local budgets were exacerbated by the recession and would likely restrain the sector’s growth for years to come. The last couple of years have witnessed threatened or actual defaults in a diversity of places, ranging from Jefferson County, Alabama, to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Stockton, California. But do these events point to a wave of future defaults by municipal borrowers? History—at least the history that most of us know—would seem to say no. But the municipal bond market is complex and defaults happen much more frequently than most casual observers are aware. This post describes the market and its risks.

The $3.7 trillion U.S. municipal bond market is perhaps best known for its federal tax exemption on individuals and its low default rate relative to other fixed-income securities. These two features have resulted in household investors dominating the ranks of municipal bond holders. As shown below, individuals directly hold more than half, or $1.879 billion, of U.S. municipal debt; when $930 billion in mutual fund holdings is included, the household share rises to three-quarters. Although the low default history of municipal bonds has played a key role in luring investors to the market, frequently cited default rates published by the rating agencies do not tell the whole story about municipal bond defaults.
However, not all municipal bonds are rated and the market’s rated universe only tells part of the story. We have developed a more comprehensive municipal default database by merging the default listings of three rating agencies (S&P, Moody’s, and Fitch) with unrated default listings as tracked by Mergent and S&P Capital IQ. Rather than confirming Moody’s 71 listed defaults from 1970 to 2011, our database shows 2,521 defaults during this same period. Similarly, our database indicates 2,366 defaults from 1986 to 2011 versus S&P’s 47 defaults during this same period. In total, we find 2,527 defaults from the period beginning in the late 1950s through 2011. (We don’t have complete information on the number of issues, so we can’t compare default rates.)Muni-bars

WARREN POLLOCK & ANN BARNHARDT ON THE ENDGAME

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwKGNO59pqA

From YouTube:

Ann Barnhardt and I (Warren Pollock) talk about the most important issues of today including the property rights, collateral, the lack of safety in savings and retirement plans, and the 2012 election. We discuss the Sentinel Bankruptcy as a test case for violating key safeguards to any and all of your financial instruments within the context of fraud or banking interests. This ruling has major implications to you as well as Jon Corzine. We anticipate the need to fund Treasuries with funds captured in retirement plans. Most importantly, Ann and I describe events without pointing the finger to “them” this is a time to take personal responsibility by finding clarity in current events.

Institutions Scream Ahead Of Imminent Death Of Money Markets

Previously we explained on at least two occasions (here and here) why the upcoming death of the US money market industry is not greatly exaggerated: quite simply, as we wrote back in 2010, the Group of 30, or the shadow group that truly runs the world (see latest members) decided some time ago that it would rather take the “inert” $2.6 trillion held in money markets, and not used to boost the fractional reserve multiplier, and instead have it allocated to such more interesting markets as bonds and stocks. As a reminder, Europe already achieved this last month when it cut its deposit rate to zero leading to a sequential shuttering of money market funds. The Fed, however, has to be far more careful to not impair the overnight General Collateral repo market which as everyone who understands the nuances of Shadow Banking knows is where all the bodies are buried, and as such has been far more careful in implementing such a shotgun approach. Instead, Ben, the SEC, and the Group of 30 have adopted a far more surgical approach to destroying money markets: they want investors themselves to pull their money by implementing such terminally destructive measures as floating NAV, redemption restrictions and capital requirements, which will achieve one thing – get the end user to pull their money from MM and put the cash either into either deposits, where it can then proceed to be “fractionally reserved” into the banking system, or to boost AMZN’s 250+ P/E. After all the number under observation is not modest: at $2.6 trillion, this is almost 20% of the market cap of the US stock market. So it was only a matter of time before major money market institutions, in this case Federated first, but soon everyone else, starts screaming and warning that money markets are about to die (which they are).

Of course, at the end of the day, whatever the Group of 30 wants, the Group of 30 gets: goodbye money market funds (more here). It was nice knowing you.

Dear Financial Professional,

Over the past 40 years, money market funds have become a staple of the US economy, used by millions of investors, businesses, state/local governments and non-profit organizations as a stable, efficient and liquid cash management vehicle.  Unfortunately, if Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Schapiro has her way, that may not be the case for much longer, as the SEC is poised to consider a set of proposals that would be the death knell for money market funds.

Notes from the Field – Simon Black

Sovereign Man

Editor’s note: I have posted the entire article from an advanced email from Mr. Black. In the near future, this article will be on his website.

Date: August 14, 2012
Reporting From: Somewhere beneath the English Channel

I’m writing this letter to you whilst throttling at a high rate of speed somewhere beneath the English Channel en route to Paris.

My ultimate destination is actually Tunisia, where I will spend the next few days on the ground checking out how the country has fared since its revolution last year.

Granted, having spent the last several days in London, it would have been much easier if I had simply flown from Heathrow airport to Tunis… yet I’ve deliberately taken this much slower route.

Why? Because the British government is doing its damnedest to outdo the US as the WORST place to travel in, out, and through in the entire world. And if you plan on traveling, this is important information to know.

In the UK, the government is in the process of installing body scanners at all airports. And unlike in the US and the rest of Europe, you cannot opt-out. If they tell you to go through the scanner, you have to go through the scanner… or else you don’t fly.

On the Heathrow airport’s FAQ page, in fact, they say:  Continue reading
