Obama Approval Ratings Down in Most States

Overall, Obama averaged 44% job approval in his third year in office, down from 47% in his second year. His approval rating declined from 2010 to 2011 in most states, with Wyoming, Connecticut, and Maine showing a marginal increase, and Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Jersey, Arizona, West Virginia, Michigan, and Georgia showing declines of less than a full percentage point. The greatest declines were in Hawaii, South Dakota, Nebraska, and New Mexico.

Stick a Fork in It: We Will Have to Pay to Save Money?

The following report to Tim Geithner from the “Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association” shows what JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs have in mind for Treasury bill auctions:

There was a lengthy discussion regarding the bid-to-cover ratios at recent Treasury bill auctions. It was broadly agreed that flooring interest rates at zero, or capping issuance proceeds at par, was prohibiting proper market function. The Committee unanimously recommended that the Treasury Department allow for negative yield auction results as soon as logistically practical.  

So who would buy Treasuries that pay less than the original purchase price? Factor in taxes and inflation and there are only two conclusions:

  1. Stick a fork in the full faith and credit of the US dollar
  2. Buy gold

News out of Brussels last night was that a package is being put together that would haircut Greek bonds by 70%, thus only paying back 30 cents on the dollar to anyone holding Greek paper. This will set a precedent that will eventually be played out all over Europe.

This is extremely bad, and will spell the end of the big U.S. banks and the financial system in total. But EVERYONE needs to understand credit default swaps (CDS) first. CDS are insurance policies that investors have traded – very similar to OPTIONS for my old clients and cattle people out there. Buying a CDS is essentially like buying a put. The buyer pays a premium, or fee, to the writer, or seller of the CDS that says that the seller will guarantee and make whole the buyer’s position in a specific bond IF the entity behind the bond (such as Greece) defaults. In exchange for paying the premium and being made whole after a default, the buyer of the CDS surrenders the bond position to the seller of the CDS, and the seller gets to keep both the premium paid plus gets to keep any salvage value of the defaulted bond.

Who Is Manipulating the Stock Market?

The New York Stock Exchange rose 415 points (3.4%) in January. But who is buying stocks? The bulk of the trades (30-50%) are made at the end of the trading sessions. Ever wonder if anyone is actually looking out for the individual when buying stocks/bonds/mutual funds for 401K plans? The key is not the increase in the stock market: the key is the volume. As shown below from a Zerohedge.com article, the volume of trades in the stock market is off 59% since 2008.

So why is the market going up if no one is buying stock? And why did the gold ETF (GLD) outperform the market three fold in January if the economy is recovering along with unemployment?

Leicester man used fake documents to get license

ASHEVILLE— Police say a Leicesterman used someone else’s name and documents to get a driver’s license.

Jesus Reynoso, 40, of Georgetown Road, was charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense, according to warrants served Friday.

Warrants state the offenses occurred in June 2003 and March 2000. Bond was set at $6,000.

Hope for the Country from the Church?

Have you ever wondered about the miracle of the American Revolution? I mean really wondered how a colony with little resources was able to coordinate a movement to declare independence from the most powerful empire in the world? And then win its independence? How much thought have you given to the following entreaty in this declaration:

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence understood one concept: it is God’s natural law that man is free. If this concept is correct, then God will protect them and their efforts. Any nation that does not support freedom is acting in violation of God’s laws.  Period.

Honor was not enough to accomplish this task, they needed sacred Honor. Our educational system does not teach our children about the Black Regiment or the Presbyterian War. But neither do we or our churches. I have publicly stated over the past three years that government is not alone in failing our country: the churches and schools are also culpable. We must correct all three if we are ever to have hope of regaining our nation’s honor and freedom.

The Catholic Church has stood up across the country and issued a statement at every mass on January 29, 2012 condemning the Obama administration’s healthcare legislation. Continue reading →

United States banks have “more than $80 billion of exposure to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and Greece”.  As outlined in an earlier article, the true figure is $616 trillion when derivatives are included. Technically $616 trillion is more than $80 billion. However, we are told that the exposure will be limited in the event of any default(s) in the Eurozone through the use of credit default swaps.

Is this true? Yes and no. The article below outlines the “theoretical” limitations to the “Big Five” banks. It is true that these banks have bought “insurance” on their debt. And now for the but: the credit default swaps are only paid out when an “event” happens. The conditions for this “event” should have already been triggered but the fine print or a last minute deal that never materializes has always stopped payment.

It’s Official: German Economy Minister Demands Surrender Of Greek Budget Policy, Says It Is First Of Many Such Sovereign “Requests”

While over the past 2 days there may have been some confusion as to who, what, how or where is demanding that Greece abdicate fiscal sovereignty (with some of our German readers supposedly insulted by the suggestion that this idea originated in Berlin, and specifically with politicians elected by a majority of the German population), today’s quotefest from German Economy Minister Philipp Roesler appearing in Germany’s Bild should put any such questions to bed. And from this point on, Greece would be advised to not play dumb anymore vis-a-vis German annexation demands. So from Reuters, “Greece must surrender control of its budget policy to outside institutions if it cannot implement reforms attached to euro zone rescue measures, the German economy minister was quoted as saying on Sunday. Philipp Roesler became the first German cabinet member to openly endorse a proposal for Greece to surrender budget control after Reuters quoted a European source on Friday as saying Berlin wants Athens to give up budget control.” And some bad news for our Portuguese (and then Spanish) readers: you are next.

What Does America Represent Today?

The original Star Trek was well known for addressing social issues: war and its consequences was a recurring theme. Forty-five years later, we are on the precipice of either a third world war or a civil war. The dilemma posed in this video is only meant to make you think about what America represents now and what it represented in 1776 when our actions pertaining to war were clearly represented.

“There will also be wars and rumors of war”. Wars fought for economic or political expediency were the rule rather than the exception in the past century. The other kind of war is one based on ideology. This type is usually fought over religious ideologies but the consequences of a soldier fighting for religious or moral convictions is a war to the death.
