US Treasury Shocks With Second Biggest Budget Surplus In History

Two weeks ago, as part of its quarterly refunding announcement, the Treasury surprised the market when it unveiled a funding need for the current quarter that was $53 billion lower than it had initially forecast in February, and which we said “indicates that DOGE is indeed working and the US funding needs are actually declining.”

Needless to say, for a market that was habituated to Joe Biden’s debt-funded drunken sailor spending ways, the news that the US would needs less – not more – spending than previously expected, came as a shock, and yields slumped as less debt than expected would be required to fund the world’s most indebted government.

Today we got the reason why the borrowing need of the US was surprisingly lower than previously expected, and it was revealed in the latest Treasury Monthly Statement laying out the US government’s monthly deficit… or rather surplus.

A Start?

From Grok

As of May 10, 2025, there is no credible evidence that AG Pam Bondi has opened a RICO investigation into the Clinton-Obama Foundation network. Major news outlets like The New York Times, CNN, and Fox News, as well as official sources such as the Department of Justice, have not confirmed this claim. While some social media posts, including from conservative accounts, have spread the rumor, the lack of verification from authoritative sources suggests it may be unverified or false.

The Establishment Slowly Wearies of Netanyahu and Israel

Last week the USS Truman lost two F/A-18 Hornets after—reportedly—being forced to maneuver against Houthi missiles. The entire charade has revolved around the US desperately doing Israel’s bidding because the US government remains under treasonous control of the Israeli lobby. Trump could very well be reaching his limits of frustration and is ready to take ‘drastic’ unilateral action to end this adventure, which is slowly bleeding the US dry. His ‘deal’ with the Houthis this week was clearly a sign of the US caving, though he was forced to ‘save face’ with claims it was the Houthis who cried uncle. Nothing of the sort: it was the US absolving itself of responsibility of having to protect its ships.

If Tillis Resigns from the Senate

If Thom Tillis resigns from his U.S. Senate seat, North Carolina state law outlines the process to fill the vacancy. The governor appoints a replacement of the same political party as the departing senator, but the appointee must be one of three candidates nominated by the state executive committee of that party. Since Tillis is a Republican, Governor Josh Stein (a Democrat) would select from a list provided by the North Carolina Republican Party’s executive committee. The appointee serves until a special election, which is held during the next general election for the U.S. House of Representatives (typically in November of an even-numbered year), provided the vacancy occurs at least 90 days prior. The winner of the special election serves the remainder of Tillis’s term, which ends in 2027. If the vacancy occurs within 90 days of the general election, the appointee serves until the following general election.
