MoveOn.org Petition Calls For Arrest Of Republican Leaders For Sedition

The 16-day shutdown of the federal government has finally come to an end, but many Americans are still furious about what they perceive as a GOP-sponsored gambit to defund the Affordable Care Act.
One outlet for that fury is a petition from the progressive MoveOn.org that calls for the U.S. Department of Justice to arrest and try Republican leaders, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) and House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio), for “the crime of seditious conspiracy against the United States of America.”
The petition argues that “the House GOP leadership’s use of the Hastert Rule and H. Res 368 to shut down the government and threaten the US economy with default is an attempt to extort the United States government into altering or abolishing the Affordable Care Act, and thus, is self-evidently a seditious conspiracy.” (The U.S. Code defines “seditious conspiracy” in part as any conspiracy “to oppose by force the authority [of the U.S. government], or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States.”)

Obama Opposes Supreme Court Review Of NSA Surveillance

This article was written by Jason Ditz and originally published at AntiWar.com
The Obama Administration is fighting hard against an effort by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) to ask the Supreme Court to weigh in on the issue of NSA surveillance of Americans’ telephone calls, insisting the court lacks jurisdiction and the issue should be left to lower courts.
EPIC has sought (PDF) a Supreme Court answer on whether the FISA courts were exceeding their authority by ordering telephone companies like Verizon to disclose information on every single phone call made by every single customer they have.
9 Signs That China Is Making A Move Against The U.S. Dollar

By Michael Snyder
The following are 9 signs that China is making a move against the U.S. dollar…
#1 Chinese credit rating agency Dagong has downgraded U.S. debtfrom A to A- and has indicated that further downgrades are possible.
#2 China has just entered into a very large currency swap agreement with the eurozone that is considered a huge step toward establishing the yuan as a major world currency. This agreement will result in a lot less U.S. dollars being used in trade between China and Europe…
The swap deal will allow more trade and investment between the regions to be conducted in euros and yuan, without having to convert into another currency such as the U.S. dollar first, said Kathleen Brooks, a research director at FOREX.com.
“It’s a way of promoting European and Chinese trade, but not doing it with the U.S. dollar,” said Brooks. “It’s a bit like cutting out the middleman, all of a sudden there’s potentially no U.S. dollar risk.”

U.S. debt jumps a record $328 billion — tops $17 trillion for first time
U.S. debt jumped a record $328 billion on Thursday, the first day the federal government was able to borrow money under the deal President Obama and Congress sealed this week.
The debt now equals $17.075 trillion, according to figures the Treasury Department posted online on Friday.
The $328 billion increase shattered the previous high of $238 billion set two years ago.
The giant jump comes because the government was replenishing its stock of “extraordinary measures” — the federal funds it borrowed from over the last five months as it tried to avoid bumping into the debt ceiling.
Under the law, that replenishing happens as soon as there is new debt space.
In this case, the Treasury Department borrowed $400 billion from other funds beginning in May, awaiting a final deal from Congress and Mr. Obama.
Usually Congress sets a borrowing limit, or debt ceiling, that caps the total amount the government can be in the red.
But under the terms of this week’s deal, Congress set a deadline instead of a dollar cap. That means debt will rise by as much as the government spends between now and the Feb. 7 deadline.
Obama’s potential release of $12bn of frozen Iranian assets would be followed by $35 billion from Europe

Will US free frozen Iranian assets?
Tehran stands to gain access to nearly $50 billion if the Obama administration decides to free up $12 billion of frozen Iranian assets in the US, inevitably followed by Europe’s release of another $35 billion. The White House was reported Friday, Oct. 18 to be weighing a proposal to offer Iran access to these funds “in installments” against “steps to cut down on its nuclear program.”
DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources: This plan offers Barack Obama a way to ease sanctions on Iran, while avoiding political and diplomatic fallout in Congress and from Jerusalem that would result from an attempt to get the sanctions legislation repealed or amended.
US lawmakers and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu continue to call for harsher measures against Iran, after the Geneva conference last week failed to achieve any breakthrough in the controversy on Iran’s nuclear program.
Although its delegation avoided any pledge to suspend uranium enrichment and offered no plan to dismantle its enrichment facilities, US officials complimented the Iranian position as “more candid and substantive” than in previous diplomatic encounters.
Indeed, according to our sources, the Iranian delegation advised the six world powers on the opposite side of the table to simply accept Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s fatwa as an ironclad pledge of the Islamic Republic’s commitment to refrain from developing a nuclear weapon and continue to pursue a peaceful program.
As for a substantial proposal to cut back on their nuclear operations, the Iranian negotiators said firmly: Sanctions relief first; concessions only at the end of the road.
China’s Largest Conglomerate Buys The Building That Houses JPMorgan’s Gold Vault

In what is the most remarkable news of the day, which has so far passed very quietly under the radar, Fosun International, China’s largest private-owned conglomerate which invests in commodities, properties and pharmaceuticals also known as “Shanghai’s Hutchison Whampoa”, announced in a statement filed just as quietly with the Hong Kong stock exchange, that it had purchased JPM’s iconic former headquarters, the tower built by none other than David Rockefeller, at 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza for a measly $725 million.
Here is Bloomberg described the transaction:
Over the past year, other Chinese developers and wealthy investors have been buying real estate in the U.S.
China Vanke Co., the biggest homebuilder listed in mainland China, said in February it joined a residential real estate venture in San Francisco. The families of Zhang Xin, co-founder of Soho China Ltd. (410), the biggest developer in Beijing’s central business district, and Brazilian banking billionaire Moise Safra this year bought a 40 percent stake in New York’s General Motors Building.
The landmark 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza, designed by architect Gordon Bunshaft and built in the 1950s, was once the headquarters of Chase Manhattan Bank. Rockefeller, as head of the bank’s building committee, selected the site and oversaw its construction.
JPMorgan intends to relocate about 4,000 employees, most of the people who work in the 60-story skyscraper, to other New York locations, Brian Marchiony, a spokesman, said in August. JPMorgan occupies about half of its space.
The Forgotten Holocaust
FREEMANSPERSPECTIVE

The slaughter took place in two phases. First was the wholesale killing of able-bodied Armenian males through massacre and forced labor. Afterward came the deportation of women, children, the elderly and the infirm, on death marches into the Syrian Desert.
All told, perhaps 1.5 million people were killed. The vast majority of these were Armenians, but the Turks also killed large numbers of Assyrian Christians, Greeks, and other minority groups. In many ways – including that of medical experiments on victims – the Armenian Genocide was the direct forerunner of the Nazi Genocide against the Jews.
Here is one miniscule part of the slaughter – a photo taken by an American diplomat, to which he added a commentary:

Source: Wikipedia
“Scenes like this were common all over the Armenian provinces, in the spring and summer months of 1915. Death in its several forms—massacre, starvation, exhaustion—destroyed the larger part of the refugees. The Turkish policy was that of extermination under the guise of deportation.”
The Test
Treasury Paid $6.2B in Fed Salaries, $2.8B in Insurance Premiums During Shutdown; 72% and 95% of Non-Shutdown Levels
During the first sixteen days of fiscal 2014, when many politicians and media outlets were saying the federal government was shut down or partially shut down–and when a sign on the front gate of the Treasury Building warned that the entrance was closed–the Treasury was nonetheless shoveling out $6.246 billion in salaries to federal employees and $2.801 billion in insurance premiums for which federal employees were the beneficiaries.
That equaled 72 percent of what the federal government paid in salaries in the first sixteen days of fiscal 2013, when the government was not shut down, and 95 percent of the insurance premiums.
From Oct. 1, 2012 to Oct. 16, 2012, the federal government was fully open for business. During that time, according to the Daily Treasury Statements, the Treasury paid $8.707 billion in salaries to federal employees and $2.962 billion in insurance premiums for federal employees.
Republican Civil War Erupts: Business Groups v. Tea Party

Tea Party Vows Future Fights as Republicans Bemoan Brand Damage
A battle for control of the Republican Party has erupted as an emboldened Tea Party moved to oust senators who voted to reopen the government while business groups mobilized to defeat allies of the small-government movement.
“We are going to get engaged,” said Scott Reed, senior political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “The need is now more than ever to elect people who understand the free market and not silliness.” The chamber spent $35.7 million on federal elections in 2012, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington-based group that tracks campaign spending.
Meanwhile, two Washington-based groups that finance Tea Party-backed candidates said yesterday they’re supporting efforts to defeat Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran, who voted this week for the measure ending the 16-day shutdown and avoiding a government debt default. Cochran, a Republican seeking a seventh term next year, faces a challenge in his party’s primary from Chris McDaniel, a state senator.
Fukushima Fear: Radiation rises, ‘nobody really knows how to dodge disaster’
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlYgIMBy208#t=1s
From YouTube:
There’s a worrying spike in radiation at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Readings from a water storage tank have rocketed six-and-a-half-thousand times higher in two days. A powerful typhoon swept through Japan earlier this week, causing toxic waters to be released into a drainage ditch leading to the Pacific Ocean. It’s compounded what’s been a worsening situation at the plant in recent months, as Irina Galushko explains.
United States becomes world’s largest producer of oil in 2013

With 12 million bpd the US is ahead of Saudi Arabia and Russia
The US has surged to be the world’s lead oil supplier because of growth in shale oil. Shale crude and condensate production at 2.5 MMB/D in 2013 is now slightly over one-third of total US crude production, and shale NGL at 1.2 MMB/D is almost half of total Natural Gas Liquids (NGL).
US total supply for 2013 is expected to average 12.1 MMB/D. In 2012 the US overtook Russia to become the second largest supplier of oil and was just behind Saudi Arabia. Both the US and Saudi Arabia increased their supply in 2013, though production in the US grew at a faster pace. US total supply in 2013 is larger than that of Saudi Arabia by 0.3 MMB/D and ahead of Russia by 1.6 MMB/D. The fourth through 10th largest suppliers are: China, Canada, UAE, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and Mexico.
Total oil supply counts all forms of liquids supply. The largest part is crude oil, including condensates. In this category, the US is expected to produce 7.4 MMB/D, which is less than that produced in Saudi Arabia and Russia by roughly 3 MMB/D each. But the US has substantial other forms of supply, including natural gas liquids (NGLs) at 2.5 MMB/D, bio-fuels at 1.0 MMB/D, and “refinery gain” at almost 1.3 MMB/D. (Refinery gain measures the ability of a refinery to optimize its output through sophisticated high conversion capabilities).
