Traditionalists need to take a deep breath!

Yes, I know. Cardinal Burke wasn’t elected Pope. I’ll be eating humble pie for the rest of Lent. I’m not worried about that.

Here’s what I am deeply worried about:

Pope Francis hadn’t been elected for more than two hours and the vitriol began to spew forth in the comment boxes of this blog and others. Many from the traditionalist crowd reacted against Pope Francis with words that were downright offensive. If one of my sons spoke like that about a priest (or any older man, for that matter), my boy would have a sore backside and a long stay in a dark room.

Within minutes of His Holiness’ appearance on the loggia, some trads began an online campaign claiming that he was a persecutor of orthodox priests in Argentina. Then they said he forbade the Latin Mass in his diocese. Then they were mocking him for not wearing the scarlet papal mozzetta. They also expressed dismay over how His Holiness prayed in Italian and not in Latin. Next, they expressed their alarm that he took off his stole immediately after the blessing. Then they made much ado over how the tapestry unfurled over the balcony wasn’t that of His Holiness’ predecessor. And these comments aren’t even the worst of it. I don’t even want to list some of the other things they have written online.

This Is What Happens When Your Money Is 1’s and 0’s

If you have your money in a bank, stock, bond or even a safe deposit box, it is not really yours. Hard to believe that the world has returned to a time where if you cannot physically touch it and guard it, your assets are not safe. As the people of Cyprus just found out:

Congratulations Cyprus savers – you were just betrayed by both your politicians, and by Europe – sorry, but you are the “creeping impairments” in the game known as European bankruptcy.And so is anywhere between 6.75% and 9.9% of your money, which you were foolish enough to keep with your banks (where at least you were compensated with a savings yield of… 0%).

A current money market yield (such as Vanguard’s VMMXX) is yielding 0.01%. That would be $10 interest on $10,000 in a year. Plus taxes. Since the real rate of inflation is 9%, you are losing $900 every year for every $10,000 of wealth. Unless you are in the stock market which is setting new records daily. Unless you own Apple stock.

It is too late to invest in firearms and ammunition. Your best investment at this time is food and precursors.

+30.5B: Federal Spending Up, Not Down, in First 5 Months of FY13

Barack Obama, Nancy PelosiFederal spending was up $30.5 billion in the first five months of fiscal 2013 compared to the first five months of fiscal 2012, according to newly released data from the U.S. Treasury.

The federal fiscal year begins on Oct. 1 and runs through Sept. 30. In the first five months of fiscal 2012 (October through February), according to the Monthly Treasury Statement, total federal spending was approximately $1,473,999,000,000.00. In the first five months of fiscal 2013, total federal spending was $1,504,547,000,000.00.

Thus, federal spending was $30,548,000,000.00 more in the first five months of fiscal 2013 than it was during the first five months of fiscal 2012.

The federal government is also spending at a much faster pace this year than it did before President Barack Obama took office.

In the first five months of fiscal 2008 (the last full fiscal year before Obama took office), the federal government spent $1,230,412,000,000.00. That is $274,315,000,000.00 less than the $1,504,547,000,000.00 that the federal government spent in the first five months of this fiscal year.

Working through Jordan, Britain and France are determined to get arms shipments to the Syrian rebels fighting Bashar Assad –  parting ways for the first time with the Obama administration’s objections to this course throughout Syria’s two-year civil war

The two European powers have embarked on  concrete step to make this possible..
DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources reveal that Jordanian Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Mashal Mohammad Al Zaben was secretly flown into Brussels by British military plane Friday, March 14, as 24 European Union leaders led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel voted down the motion put before them by UK Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande to end the bloc’s embargo on arms for the Syrian opposition.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said EU foreign ministers will again assess the embargo at a meeting on March 22-23 in Dublin.

Outside the chamber, the Jordanian general sat down quietly with British army and security officials to work out the details of the transfer of British arms through his country, and decide to which Syrian rebel units they would be allotted.

This choice is of paramount importance because President Barack Obama accounts for his objection to letting the rebels have Western arms by the risk of their falling into the hands of Islamist militias, such as the al Qaeda-linked Jabat al-Nusra.

NC Students are Common Core’s Data Goldmine

miningA MUST READ by Michelle Malkin today reports on the invasive nationalized Common Core program and the assault on our children’s privacy.

North Carolina students are currently being “data mined” and “tracked” by the federal Common Core program.  What is being tracked on your children is astounding.  Data is being compiled on your child’s health care history, income, religion and blood type.  A February US Dept of Education report even considers using (and I’m NOT making this up), “functional magnetic resonance imaging” and “using cameras to judge facial expressions, an electronic seat that judges posture, a pressure-sensitive computer mouse and a biometric wrap on kids’ wrists.” The DOE report also reveals that Common Core is designed to track children’s “competencies” in “recognizing bias in sources,” cultural awareness and competence” and “flexibility”.

Pentagon speeds up missile defenses in face of growing North Korean, Iranian missile threats

North Korea’s deployment of a new road-mobile missile that can hit the United States prompted the Pentagon on Friday to add more ground-based anti-missile interceptors to bases in Alaska and California, senior defense and military officials said on Friday.

Adm. James Winnefeld, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters at the Pentagon that North Korea’s new, road-mobile KN-08 ICBM has emerged as a threat “a little bit faster than we expected.”

“We believe the KN-08 probably does have the range to reach the United States, and our assessment of where it exists and its lifetime is something that would remain classified,” Winnefeld said.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday that “we believe North Korea has already taken initial steps towards fielding this [KN-08] system, although it remains untested.”

Winnefeld also warned North Korea the United States is prepared to take military action if deterrence fails and Pyongyang should attack.

The new steps include:

  • Adding 14 Ground-based Interceptors at Fort Greely, Alaska and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.;
  • Moving a second TPY-2 long-range missile defense radar to Japan to monitor and track North Korean missile launches;
  • Conducting an environmental study for a third ground-based Interceptor site on the East Coast to counter long-range Iranian missiles;
  • Canceling deployment in 2022 of an advanced and more capable version of the Navy SM-3 missile called variant IIB for use against Iranian long-range-missiles. The program was cut to save money.

Let me start with a positive comment. Remember, this is the best I could come up with:

If we had gotten the pope we DESERVE, we would now have Pope Snoop Dogg.

And thus ends the positivity.

Francis, like his homeland of Argentina, is a total disaster. He has overseen the near-total destruction of the Church in Argentina. He hates and despises the Tridentine Mass, which is to say that he hates the Mass – let’s not mince words, and is a rabid persecutor of anyone in Argentina who shows ANY signs of tradition. A priest in Argentina literally risks the end of his career if he wears a cassock in public. He has forbidden the Tridentine Mass in Argentina, which is an act of direct disobedience, specifically against the papal decree Summorum Pontificum, but embraces horrific “charismatic” and “Superfun Rockband”-type liturgical sacrilege.

Which brings us to his regard for the papacy, and the Church itself. He said yesterday in his bizarre little speech, again and again, that he was the Bishop of Rome, which is true, but in being the Bishop of Rome the pope is the head of the Universal Church, not just the city of Rome. Francis does not believe this, and even made a reference to the idea that the pope is “first among equals”. This means that he regards the Church as a mere loose confederacy, and also that he thinks the Church is, or should be, a democracy. The proof of this is, again, his blatant disobedience to Summorum Pontificum. He will never do anything to clean up the sodomite infiltrators in the Church outside of Rome because he doesn’t feel that the pope has any authority outside of Rome. Bottom line here: many bishops and archbishops have been kept in line over the past eight years because Benedict was relatively aggressive in booting out extremely bad bishops. Benedict was feared in a healthy way. This guy is basically the big green light to every Marxist-homosexualist to just go ahead and do whatever, because they know Francis will never remove them or even chastise them, because Francis doesn’t believe that the pope has any universal authority and is merely the bishop of the city of Rome proper – at least that is the excuse that will be given when nothing is done about abuses and heresies **that Francis is sympathetic towards.**

The Common Core State Standards initiative is, according to its official website, a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), developed “in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.”

The standards are said to be:

Aligned with college and work expectations;
Clear, understandable and consistent;
Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;
Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;
Are informed by other top performing countries, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society; and

Justice Department wins secrecy award for second year in a row

The Justice Department has won the Rosemary Award for the second year in a row, an award that honors the federal agency with the “worst open government performance” of 2012.

The National Security Archive announced Friday it was bestowing the Rosemary Award—named after Nixon secretary Rose Mary Woods, who “accidentally” erased portions of the Watergate tapes—on the Justice Department for continuing to flout congressional and executive orders to improve transparency.

Justice “clinched the intensely competitive award” with the Wednesday appearance by the director of the department’s Office of Information Policy, Melanie Pustay, before the Senate Judiciary Committee, according to a press release announcing DOJ’s win.

Pustay testified that updating agency Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regulations was optional, “‘not required,’ after Congress changed the law in 2007 or when the president and the attorney general changed the policy in 2009.”

Binyamin Netanyahu has signed formed a coalition government to remain the prime minister of Israel. This will give him the authority to confront president Obama next week as the leader of Israel. I suspect that the terms Obama thought he would dictate to Israel next weeks are now “under review”. But then again, Obama’s arrogance knows no boundaries (or borders).

Netanyahu signs deal for new coalition government

After weeks of tough haggling, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s third government was in the bag Friday, March 15, having finally signed deals with two political newcomers, Yair Lapid (centrist Yesh Atid – Future) and Naftali Bennett (pro-settlement Habayit Hayehudi – Jewish Home). Both insisted on the new lineup excluding the ultra-Orthodox Jewish parties from the government for the first time in a decade, stipulating an end to the draft exemptions and welfare subsidies traditionally extended to them.

Shas and Torah Judaism now join Labor on the opposition benches.

The new government will be presented to President Shimon Peres Saturday night and sworn in Monday, March 18, two days before President Barack Obama arrives for a visit.
Although Netanyahu’s Likud-Israeli Beitenu came out of the Jan. 22 election as the largest faction, it only garnered a disappointing 31 seats (in the 120-member Knesset). For a 61 majority, the prime minister was forced to part with a larger slice of government than his own party liked in the lengthy negotiations with Lapid and Bennett.

Yesh Atid, which is committed to improving the lot of the middle class, has gained five ministries, including Finance for Lapid and Education for Shay Piron, who plans major reforms in the curriculum. Members of Lapid’s party are also assigned Social Welfare, Health and Science and Technology as well as the chair of the Knesset committee for promoting equality for women.
