Simon Black: Does this look like a picture of recovery?

Now, I’m an optimistic guy… and there are plenty of good news stories around the world. But just looking at the numbers, it’s clear that there is a major disconnect between sentiment and reality.

On one hand, western governments and mainstream media sources tell people that their economies are recovering and moving forward. Sentiment is high, confidence is growing. Unfortunately the data show a completely different story:

  1. In the US, while the official unemployment rate is falling, a much better indication of the labor market is the Labor Force Participation Rate– the percentage of people within a society who are engaged in the work force. It rose steadily for decades after World War II as more and more women entered the work force, peaking in the late 1990s/early 2000s. It has been in terminal decline for the past ten years, having now reached the same level as from the late 1970s.labor force participation Does this look like a picture of recovery?

Try the Stats Without the Agenda …

We’ve all heard the noise from the main stream media and the politicians about how violent and out of control the American society is. The inference is things are getting much worse. The predictable answer is to emasculate the 2nd Amendment. Really?

Democide

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D7tm4du87U

THE 2ND AMENDMENT ISN’T ABOUT HUNTING, FOLKS.  It’s about defending our families and communities against government gone wrong – it’s our defense against tyranny and democide, plain and simple.  Our founding fathers made it quite plain, and their warnings about the dangers of tyranny were almost prophetic.

Now, I’m no lover of conspiracy theories, but this isn’t one.  It’s absolutely true; democide has resulted in, by moderate estimates, the deaths of just under 300 Million people in the last century.  That is nearly equal to the present lawful population of the United States.  You could argue that it has “only been half of that”; but that would still be 145 Million people killed.

THERE IS NO COUNTER-ARGUMENT TO THIS FACT;  THERE CAN BE NONE.  It is a moral imperative that people have the right and the obligation to resist any and all government organized purveyance of mass death and despair.

The Craven?

3_raven(My attending the Sheriffs’ Meeting on January 16th in Zebulon was the motivation for this adaptation of “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe”) – NCGirl

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered the President’s executive orders weak and weary,
Over the Second Amendment and a brilliant manuscript of forgotten law,
While I read, jaws a-gaping suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one repeatedly rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“ ’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door —
Only this, and nothing more.”

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak November,
And voters cast their feckless ballots upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; — vainly I had sought to borrow
From the government surcease of sorrow — sorrow for the freedoms lost before –
For the rare and radiant liberty whom the forefathers’ covenant swore—
Might be Nameless here for evermore.

The following are 50 shocking questions that you should ask to anyone that is not a prepper yet…

#1 Why are sales of physical silver coins breaking all sorts of all-time records?  The U.S. Mint is on pace to sell more silver eagles during the first month of 2013 than it did during the entire year of 2007.

#2 Why has Germany announced that it will be moving gold from New York and Paris to its own vaults back home?  Is this a sign of a breakdown in trust among global central banks?

#3 Why is China systematically hoarding gold?

#4 Why have billionaires such as George Soros and John Paulson been hoarding massive amounts of gold?

#5 Why are billionaires buying up so much ranch land up in Montana?

#6 Why is Russia warning that we are rapidly approaching a global “currency war”?

#7 Why has Barack Obama chosen this moment to launch an all-out attack on the Second Amendment?

#8 Why does Barack Obama want doctors to ask their patients questions about firearms?

#9 Why is there an incredibly severe nationwide ammunition shortage all of a sudden?

#10 Why has a bill been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that “would ban Internet or mail order ammunition purchases“?

US Mint Out Of Silver Coins – Suspends Sales

As we noted earlier this month, the demand for both gold and silver ‘physical’ coins has been record-breaking as 2013 began. So much so, that now after selling over 6 million silver coins in 2013 so far, the US Mint has run out of silver eagles and has suspended sales. Furthermore, the Mint is saying that it will not restart sales until January 28th! With all asunder proclaiming victory and crisis averted based on the nominal price of stocks at five-year highs, Swiss interest rates no longer negative, and Spanish bond yields at 5%, it seems there are still a few that demand the wealth-preserving safe-haven of hard assets as the escalation of the currency wars shows no sign of abating.

Authorized Purchasers,

The United States Mint has temporarily sold out of 2013 American Eagle Silver Bullion coins.  As a result, sales are suspended until we can build up an inventory of these coins.  Sales will resume on or about the week of January 28, 2013, via the allocation process.

Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

Jack A. Szczerban

GRNC files parks lawsuit against Winston-Salem

Gun Rights Supporters:

As we have promised, Grass Roots North Carolina’s non-profit arm has struck a blow for those who carry firearms for self-protection by filing its lawsuit against the city of Winston-Salem.

GRNC’s sister organization is Rights Watch International (RWI), and the lawsuit concerns the city’s willful disregard of state law enabling firearms carry in municipal parks.

Cities thumb their noses at state law

As you may recall, part of House Bill 650 expands concealed carry into state and municipal parks. A weakening amendment to the bill, however, still allows municipalities and counties to ban guns in narrowly defined “recreational facilities,” defined in the statute to include only athletic fields, playgrounds, swimming pools, and athletic facilities.

THE LAW OF THE SWORD – CHUCK BALDWIN

My last two columns which stated that my line in the sand has been drawn and I will NOT register or surrender my firearms, even if that makes me a lawbreaker (in the sight of government), have generated multiplied thousands of reader responses. And while the vast majority of these responses expressed complete agreement, there were several responses from professing Christians telling me that I was in violation of Holy Scripture for making such a stand.

As one might expect, some of my brethren argued the erroneous “obey-the-government-no-matter-what” interpretation of Romans 13. For the sake of the many new readers of this column, let me point out that my son, constitutional Christian attorney Timothy Baldwin, and I have co-written a pivotal book dealing with this fallacious interpretation of Romans 13 in a book entitled “Romans 13: The True Meaning of Submission.” This book takes the entire Word of God to show that nowhere does the Bible teach (including in Romans 13) that Christians should submit to unlawful government. In fact, just the opposite is taught: Christians often have a duty to RESIST unlawful government.

But perhaps the verse of Scripture that my slightly confused brethren quoted most in their attempt to rebuke me was Matthew 26:52, “Then said Jesus unto him [Simon Peter], Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” (KJV) This, they said, proves that Christians have no right to keep and bear arms if the government said it was illegal to do so. However, with all due respect, this interpretation is opposed to the overwhelming evidence of Scripture to the contrary.

Action Alert – Contact Head of NCDMV

As you may or may not know, the NCDMV had started issuing drivers licenses to illegal aliens ever since President Obama enacted his Deferred Action Program. The practice was stopped a couple of weeks ago until the NCDMV could get a ruling from NC Attorney General Roy Cooper, whether the illegal aliens qualified for one under NC law in conjunction with the President’s program.

Today (1/17/2013) the NC Attorney General ruled that illegal aliens DO qualify for a driver’s license in NC under the Deferred Action Program of the Obama Administration.

However, it is not against the law to deny them one either. Many other states do not. It is up to the State. Just because we can give them one, doesn’t mean we should give them one. A NC drivers’ license is a privilege reserved for law abiding NC residents, not a right guaranteed to law breaking illegal aliens.

US Drones, Boots Arrive In Mali

Absolutely “nobody” could have possibly anticipated that the week old French incursion into Mali could already have such disastrous consequences: a botched hostage rescue attempt by French commandos while leaving behind one of their team, a downed pilot on the first day of the confrontation, revels that succeeded in capturing a strategic village and military post, and today, yet another hostage crisis in Algeria that has seen tens of hostages killed, potentially including Americans, following another botched rescue operation. Yet, in some ways, perhaps the stars have aligned just right for the US, which as Bloomberg reports, has wasted no time in sending not only drones in the air, but also boots on the ground.

From Bloomberg:

  • U.S. military trainers are expected to arrive in West Africa this weekend to train local military forces to fight Islamist insurgents including those now battling French and local government troops in Mali, State Dept. spokeswoman Victoria Nuland says in Washington.
  • U.S. now providing intelligence, airlift to French troops fighting insurgents in Mali
  • No U.S. troops to operate in Mali; U.S. barred from providing direct assistance to Mali military

So on one hand the US is barred from providing direct assistance, but on the other, US trainers are… providing direct assistance?

But why? Well, take a quick look at the map of French “military assets” in Mali.

The Frightening Truth Behind Bank Of America’s “Earnings”

Over a year ago we noted that when it comes to Bank of America “earnings”, items which traditionally are classified as non-recurringone-time: primarily litigation and mortgage related charges, have now become recurring, and all the time, courtesy of the worst M&A transaction of all time – the purchase of Countrywide and its horrifying mortgage book. Today, this is finally being appreciated by the market where even the pompom carriers have said that it is time to start ignoring the endless addbacks and focus on actual earnings. The same cheerleaders have also, finally, understood that the primary source of “profitability” at this lawsuit magnet of a company, is nothing other than the accounting trick known as loan loss reserve releases – not actual profits but merely bottom line adjustments whose purpose is to mitigate the impact of quarterly charge offs on loans gone horrible bad. Remember that Bank of America has some $908 billion in total consumer loans and leases, and every day hundreds of millions of these go ‘bad‘ and ultimately have to be discharged, offset by “hopes” that the future will improve. This hits both the balance sheet and the P&L. So, if one steps back and ignores the non-recurring, one-time noise, what emerges? A truly frightening picture.

The chart below shows Bank of America’s earnings broken down to their most basic: the blue bar shows reported pre-tax net income excluding pro forma adjustments, as it is shown on the company’s filings. This is the number that bank “analysts” then use as the baseline to grow using addbacks, getting to a final number which exists only in some excel spreadsheet, and which is used to sell BAC stock to clueless lemmings. However, what this number also includes, is the now infamous loan loss reserves. Luckily, the Bank breaks it all up. And the red bar in the chart shows what earnings would have been had Bank of America not taken the benefit of padding its Net Income with said accounting gimmick.

So what happens when one strips loss reserve releases from the Net Income? Well, the full year Bank of America Per-Tax earnings plunges by a whopping $6.7 billion (the total loan loss reserve releases taken in 2012) from $4 billion to a negative $2.8 billion.
