We Must Have Our Drones

The city of Monroe, North Carolina has approved the expenditure of $44,000 to buy a mini drone for their police department. I have to wonder why they did not wait until September and spend $399 for a surveillance drone that has a HD camera:

Get the Wi-Fi GAMMA DRAGONFLY.

ALL inclusive in YOUR choice of color + 1 Extended Battery Pack + 1 on-the-go battery charger + FOUR variety wing pairs + SDK + 1 FREE upgrade to HD Camera. (Add $30 Canada and $45 Int’l shipping)

Estimated delivery: September 2013

But then again, government thinks our money is just another asset to be taxed to go to its rightful owners.

Colorado Senate Bill 13-197 Passes

Senate Bill 13-197 was approved in the Colorado Senate on March 8th, 2013:

A bill barring domestic abusers from having access to guns won initial approval in the Colorado Senate on Friday despite arguments the bill was unworkable and wouldn’t help victims.

The Senate still must take a recorded vote on the bill, something expected to happen Monday. If it passes, the bill then heads to the House.

This is one of seven bills that are being discussed in Colorado this weekend:

Senate Bill 195:Bans online training for concealed handgun permits

Senate Bill 196:Assesses liability for assault-style weapons

Senate Bill 197:Restricts firearms for domestic violence offenders

House Bill 1224:Limits ammunition magazines to 15 rounds

House Bill 1226:Outlaws use of concealed-weapon permits on college campuses

House Bill 1228:Requires gun customers to pay the costs of their background checks

House Bill 1229:Requires universal background checks for gun sales and transfers

We need to understand that what is happening in Colorado will impact North Carolina and the rest of the nation. Colorado is the Obama front for national gun control legislation. For a government that is so concerned with eliminating firearms and ammunition through regulation and legislation, we must ask ourselves why the federal government is stockpiling ammunition and militarizing our police.

GRNC Alert 3-8-2013: Support Pro-Gun Bills in NC Legislature!

Constitutional amendment, campus carry, & more…

SB 190: ‘Gun on Ed. Prop./Stored in Locked Car’

Drafted with assistance from GRNC and sponsored by Sen. Bill Cook(R-Beaufort, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, GRNC ****), SB 190 would allow concealed handgun permit-holders to keep firearms in locked motor vehicles on educational properties, further permitting their removal for defensive purposes. Although the bill is not the full campus carry bill which GRNC is shepherding (and which will soon be introduced), SB 190 would apply to all concealed handgun permit-holders, unlike other bills introduced to date. Beyond providing limited means for self-defense, it would prevent thousands of parents, taking children to school, from becoming accidental felons.

HB 246: ‘The Gun Rights Amendment’

First, let us note that the main mover behind the bill, Rep. Larry Pittman (R-Cabarrus, GRNC ****), is arguably the greatest patriot in the General Assembly. He is already being attacked for his patriotism, and we need to defend him.

HB 246 is admittedly a “hail Mary” pass. If passed, however, it would be the most comprehensive expansion of gun rights in North Carolina history. In addition to removing language from Section 30 of the North Carolina Constitution which says, “Nothing herein shall justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons, or prevent the General Assembly from enacting penal statutes against that practice”, it would expand concealed carry into restaurants, court buildings, assemblies for which admission is charged, and elsewhere.

HR 63: ‘Support Right to Bear Arms’

Sponsored by Rep. Michael Speciale (R-Beaufort, Craven, Pamlico, GRNC ****), HR 63 simply reaffirms the Second Amendment and North Carolina Constitution language on the individual right to keep and bear arms, notes that the Obama administration is proposing restrictions on that right, notes that gun control has not been found in studies to be effective, and passes on that purely symbolic reaffirmation to the North Carolina congressional delegation.

GRNC normally doesn’t expend resources on non-binding resolutions and, frankly, considered this so non-controversial we didn’t even issue an alert prior to its hearing in the House Rules Committee. But that was before North Carolinians “Against Gun Violence” rallied its radicals against the resolution, whining:

Despite the rhetoric about ‘individual rights’ and gun laws being unconstitutional, five years of legal decisions show, legislators and activists should feel confident that a variety of smart laws are constitutional, desperately needed, and desired by the majority of North Carolinians!”

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

John Brennan Takes Oath on Draft Constitution…

John Brennan Takes Oath on Draft Constitution Without the Bill of Rights

New CIA Director John Brennan on Friday took his oath of office behind closed doors, vowing to uphold and serve the U.S. Constitution. It seems like a very uncontroversial event.

However, Brennan is once again being criticized, this time for a symbolic gesture he made during his swearing in ceremony.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters on Friday that Brennan was “sworn in with his hand on an original draft of the Constitution that had George Washington’s personal handwriting and annotations on it, dating from 1787.”

Brennan reportedly asked for a document from the National Archives that would adequately “reaffirm his commitment to the rule of law as he took his oath of office as director of the CIA.”

Pretty cool right? Well, the only problem, as blogger Marcy Wheeler notes, the document that Brennan used at his swearing in is missing a very important part of the U.S. Constitution that governs the country today — the Bill of Rights.

Reality Check by Simon Black: The Dow Jones Industrial Average vs. Bananas

Bananas

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, one of the key benchmarks of the US stock market, has soundly surpassed its all-time high. And most of the investing world is toasting their collective success and celebrating the recovery.

It’s a funny thing, really. Most investors only think in terms of ‘nominal’ numbers, i.e. Dow 14,000+ is 40% higher than Dow 10,000 (back in November 2009). But few think in terms of ‘real’ numbers… inflation-adjusted averages.

Based on the wholesale price of bananas, the Dow currently buys you a whopping 15.35 tons of the tropical fruit.

bananas vs dow Reality Check: The Dow Jones Industrial Average vs. Bananas

But this is exactly the same amount of bananas the Dow would buy back in February 2008, when the Dow was just 12,266. And it’s a massive 60% drop from June 1999 when the Dow bought 38.51 tons of bananas.

North Korea Renounces Non-Aggression Pact

North Korea says ‘prepare for war’

North Korea’s leader placed his army on readiness to “annihilate the enemy” on Friday as the regime officially renounced all non-aggression pacts with its southern neighbour.

Kim Jong-un escalated his inflammatory response to a new round of United Nations sanctions by ordering troops on the border with South Korea to prepare for war.

But China, North Korea’s only powerful ally, publicly urged “calm and restraint”.

Mr Kim chose a highly sensitive location for his address to North Korean troops, visiting military positions facing the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, where a North Korean bombardment killed four people and wounded 19 in 2010.

When They Roll…

MRAP-with-LRAD12:43EDT – Just got a call from a friend on the road – major convoy of “US ARMY” vehicles rolling like big dogs – 40-50 HUMMVees, ~25 MRAPs, and ~15 other assorted support vehicles, mostly in Woodland Camo livery, the rest in solid green or black, going north on I-95 at the border of South Carolina, headed into North Carolina.

Observer stated that at least 20 of the HUMMVees had “satellite dish looking” devices mounted on top – don’t have pictures, but these are almost certainly LRADs (Long Range Acoustic Devices) which are used for crowd control.

Keep your eyes peeled, folks, these troopies are headed *somewhere* looking for a party…

Joint US-Israel-Turkish-Jordanian HQ to operate in Syria in chemical war

USS Truman on standby for chemical warfare

USS Truman on standby for chemical warfare

A new US-led contingency headquarters for joint US, Israeli, Jordanian and Turkish operations will go into action inside Syria if any or all these allies should come under chemical or biological attack. Agreement to establish this headquarters was finalized at the talks US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel held with visiting Israeli defense Minister Ehud Barak at the Pentagon Tuesday, March 5.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Hagel spoke of a chemical war in Syria in terms of an imminent and realistic eventuality. Washington expected the Syrian rebels close to al Qaeda to initiate this type of warfare and the Syria army to fight back in kind. Such an exchange could quickly spill over the Syrian borders to its neighbors, it was likewise predicted.

The abduction of 21 UNDOP Filipino UN observers Wednesday, March 6, by the Islamist Martyrs of the Yarmouk, is now seen as tying in closely with the next plans of the Islamist militias of the Syrian rebel force, headed by Jabhat al-Nusra, which are to cement their grip on the Syrian Golan, eastern Syria and the Upper Euphrates, where the important towns of Deir Azor and Abu Kemal are situated.

Therefore, the parties involved in their release refute the optimistic accounts of the blue-helmeted hostages’ early release issuing from Damascus, UN headquarters in New York and Middle East capitals.

The Right to Self-Defense

Let’s be candid: All government fears liberty. By its nature, government is the negation of liberty. God has given us freedom, and the government has taken it away. George Washington recognized this when he argued that government is not reason or eloquence but force. If the government had its way, it would have a monopoly on force.

Government compels, restrains and takes. Thomas Jefferson understood that when he wrote that our liberties are inalienable and endowed by our Creator, and the only reason we have formed governments is to engage them to protect our liberties. We enacted the Constitution as the supreme law of the land to restrain the government. Yet somewhere along the way, government got the idea that it can more easily protect the freedom of us all from the abuses of a few by curtailing the freedom of us all. I know that sounds ridiculous, but that’s where we are today.
